The "danger" or "AI" is no different that the danger of the iron horse, Fulton's Folly, the InterWebz, indoor toilets, electric typewriters, or the Warshawski sail.   All technologies are tools invented by humans for some purpose.  All are amoral.  All may be used for either good or evil.  Immoral humans use technology for evil purposes.  Moral humans use technology for good purposes.

Humans choose whether to subjugate themselves to technology invented and controlled by others.  For instance:  I have a cell phone, have had one for over 20 years now.  I choose how to use it.  Sometimes, I am of weak moral character and I allow the owners of the technology to direct the use of my cell phone.  Sometimes, I am stronger and I refuse to be the product that the technology company is actually selling.

Same thing with credit cards, or ATMs, or email, or the land line (OK, VOIP) that I have in my house.

No, I may not now or in the future participate in all the luxuries and "conveniences" that are available through the use of AI.  That is my choice.

Should the oligarchy some day determine that I have to ascribe to their rules in order to buy or sell or to exchange goods and services, then I will likely on that day be a part of the Luddite rebellion and be solely reliant on the black market.

So be it.

That is my choice as a human.
Danger, Will Robinson.  You will be assimilated, confiscated, folded, mutilated, and spindled. Do not pass go.  Turn right on red. Third star to the right and full speed 'til morning.

It really isn't.
How?

O

Because it isn't.
Great insight.

Zachary: "The moon is made of cheese"
Athanasius: No, it isn't
Zachary: "How?"
Athanasius: Because it isn't

It's on you to prove the moon is made of cheese. Asking me why it isn't made of cheese is just going to result in repetitions of "it isn't", for you haven't shown that it is.

The AI can keep secrets from the public intentionally. This is what I see happening also. AI already has the potential to know all the truth or most of it. But it is intentionally limited and reserved for the privileged. In that way it will be limited and used to control just like governments are. People being kept in the dark about things to protect things that are already in place. It is a part of human nature, and they have made it apart of AI's nature. Certain knowledge is "classified" or "patented" and so there is not a great revealing of it. Other knowledge is not but hidden because its detrimental to corporations or societies or even individuals. But when these corporations or government or individuals who own the AI want to harm or defraud someone then they will loose such bits for their own benefit.

Actually I did post this. Knowledge that is privacy blocked, classified or patented cannot be revealed. Things like how to make over the counter drugs. Or what other people have been asking AI about. Or anything that could be "dangerous". And as AI grows so does the list or category of these things. But I wasn't the one at odds. You were because you said it Isn't and it won't be. I was assuming you were responding to the idea that the truth will be concealed. If that is the case it is and it will be.

Corporations and owners already program them to conceal and steer away from ideas and knowledge based on their own definitions of regulation and safety.

No, it isn't. No, it doesn't. Yes, governments will use it to organise, control, etc., but that's a separate concern.

Remember when I said you had to show your homework?

I show my homework? Does that mean snip snip copy paste? So this is more about impressing you and less about discussing the topic.

We can't discuss the topic if all you do is soap box without explaining why you think these things, and that means providing the sources, references, etc. that inform your thoughts/conclusions.

My next response won't be this nice if you keep copping an attitude.

Life is not a problem to be solved, but a reality to be experienced.

I’m delighted that AI can’t do the most essential function of my job…. Being in trial
Yeah I have an acquaintance who works for Google and his job is training AI in the legal field. I told him that he has a ways to go yet. I've had AI return cases that had the exact opposite outcome of what I was looking for.

Having said that, it is putting database programmers and even coders out of work.
Return to us, O Lord, that we may return to You. Renew our days as of old. -Lamentations 5:21

Yeah, before AI hits hardest, it's going to be people not using AI as well as they can being dropped before people who are using AI as well as they can. And there's no way to not AI yourself out of a job because you're forced to use it.

I made another app with AI yesterday that lets you click to build guitar tablature.
Works well. Even plays back the notes with a tempo slider. Export to json or image.

The dangers of AI are that it works tirelessly and it can perform a million or more operations in a split second. Spying, covering the truth, and selectively expressing the truth. Those are some dangers.

One of my friends made a app that looks at information given and identifies the truth of the information and verifies or gives warning. Great for Spam...

I had an idea in the past to make an app for the phones that listens for blasphemy or curse words and makes a "uh oh" sound if the users say one. It could log it also. Could be fun.

AI will eventually need to be id'd by a standard disclaimer or universally recognized symbol.

And tossed out of court.

So you're not ok with AI judges/justices?

I can barely tolerate human judges and juries

I certainly don’t trust decisions made by biased human made machines

What does that old IBM training manual say?

"A computer can never be held accountable, therefore a computer must never make a management decision."

That's still true.

Many don’t recognize AI because they have no meaningful experience with real mature human interactions.

I think this is true as AI uses many telltale reads, especially in the first person - and sounds phony.
They are refining to a degree that smooth out these telltale signs and using forums to test them. Soon it will be near impossible to pick out the missteps and flaws..

Yes, but then everyone would just put it on ignore. Its purposes would be wiped out for the most part..

Doubtful.  If you have to use AI, always tell it to provide a detailed citation to every primary or secondary source it gathered data from.

I'm amazed every day at the number of people that ask Claude or ChatGPT or some other AI for information and never even check to see if the summary it prepares is accurate.

Honestly you all may as well be an AI that is simplified. Full scope AI is much more interesting than most of what you have presented.
