Something I posted awhile back and journaled. I don't put dates in this journal, so I don't know how long ago I wrote this:
(For all Christians who serve in the Military and Law Enforcement)
Of my days seeking God for understanding how "I" can be an Infantryman in the Army and also serve God.
It's all about the heart. Did I love violence... NO! Did I seek violence... NO! Was I capable in DOING violence... YES! Would I do violence to save others... YES!
There was no "murder" in my heart even though I was capable in killing.
God helped me understand what sin is and what is not sin.
And I was (am) comforted in knowing that I was exactly where He wanted me to be.

~In the turmoil of any chaos, all it takes is that whisper which is heard like thunder over all the noise and the chaos seems to go away, focus returns and we are comforted in knowing that God has listened to our cry for help.~

Thank you for this Slug... It's appreciated...

Just saw this topic. It is never too late to say, God bless and keep our soldiers and police. Be they Christian or otherwise. That they feel led to lay their life on the line to protect people, freedom, and our country and way of life is a calling, not a job.

God bless you all. And thank you eternally from the bottom of my heart.

And may God rest unto peace all who lost their lives in service. Amen.

As a veteran, I appreciate the sentiments expressed in this thread. There are some who perceive a moral ambivalence in Christians serving in the military or law enforcement. They wonder how one can serve God yet be willing to kill someone. As Slug points out, there is a big difference between murder and a justifiable killing. Recall it was the soldier Cornelius to whom the Lord sent Peter. It was Cornelius' faith, prayers and charitable giving the Lord recalled, not any blood he had shed in battle. As the Apostle Paul reminds us, civil authority bears the sword as an agency of God (Romans 13:2-4). Without those willing to put their lives on the line and use deadly force when necessary, we would all be at the mercy of tyrants and criminals.

Standing before the Judgment Throne we will retain only two things from this life: what God gave us, and what we accomplished with it.
