Yep -- there are entire denominations that will accuse a person of adopting the teachings of Pelegius wholesale if that person says they don't find Augustine's notion of "original sin" compelling. The logic goes, "You don't believe in ontic corruption?!? WHAT?! Oh, so then you must think a person can earn their own salvation!"

That includes such controversial statements as, "Adam and Eve sinned prior to possessing some 'sin nature'; therefore, such a nature is not required to explain sin and in fact, adds nothing".

As recent iterations of Christian Nationalism etc, will blindly condemn entire swaths of individuals who have actually succombed to health issues. The State preaching spiritual truth?

I don't apply that term to most people that attend church.

I am more and more often using the phrase "follower of Jesus" instead of "Christian" is someone asks me about my faith or "religious affiliation."
