National Sunday Law
« on: July 19, 2026, 07:44:59 AM »
The "National Sunday Law" doctrine is a belief held primarily by Seventh-day Adventists and puts forward that the United States government will eventually legislate nationwide Sunday observance. Now if we look at the current the United States Administration, we find it with many in the Cabinet that would agree with this view in the Cabinet, and we find that in his new book 'Communion', U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance openly writes, “I’ve supported blue laws,” while arguing that workers should be protected from Sunday labor so they can attend church and fulfil religious obligations. So its mandate as a national day of rest and worship, is definitely feasible in the U.S. which would result in the state forcing its citizens to honor a day not given in the Bible and clearly seen as setting aside God's commandment to keep the seventh-day Sabbath.

1.  Never happen.  Our society runs 24/7.  We stopped having even the vestiges of a “Christian” culture decades ago.

2.  When you are a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
Danger, Will Robinson.  You will be assimilated, confiscated, folded, mutilated, and spindled. Do not pass go.  Turn right on red. Third star to the right and full speed 'til morning.

So when it happens, what will you say...?

American society is moving away from religiosity, not towards it. Mind you, I think that's bad thing. But nonetheless, your point is moot.

They had and have blue laws but that doesn't mean people will obey them. If we want to keep the Sabbath then why not just do it as the Jews did? Nothing prevents us from keeping it.

I had asked a Jew here how he kept the Sabbath, but he would not answer. Instead, he was waiting for a Christian.

Uh, I think you mean me.

Yeah, I know how to keep the Sabbath. I want to hear how an SDA keeps the Sabbath. Whether they are strictly "Christian' or not is not my place to say.

I can speak on the account of did, meaning I read in the bible when they did at times. And from my perspective on the bible, this was The Lords commandment for them because they kept slaves. And The Lord would not bless them if they had mistreated and over worked their slaves. Because while they were in Egypt, and under the thumb of the Pharaohs, they were over worked and mistreated and The Lord had pity on them.
In America we do not have slaves legally, and so for many of us the only reason we would keep it would be to worship The Lord who commanded those things to the Israelites. But did they always remember it was so they would not mistreat others and over work them? I cannot say.

So... you think that the only reason that God commanded the Sabbath was to protect slaves?

The Sabbath is mentioned in Genesis 2, long before there were slaves. Or Jews for that matter.

Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.
By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

And to see it as only existing in the context of slavery (which does exist) is to ignore verses like this:

Thus shall the children of Israel observe the Sabbath, to make the Sabbath throughout their generations as an everlasting covenant. Between Me and the children of Israel, it is forever a sign that in six days The Lord created the heaven and the earth, and on the seventh day He ceased and rested."

This seems to tie in the creation saga and God's eternal covenant with the children of Israel.

I much prefer the version "those who cannot remember their history are doomed to repeat it. Next semester".

Exodus 2:23
And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage.

Exodus 6:5
And I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage; and I have remembered my covenant.

Exodus 13:3
And Moses said unto the people, Remember this day, in which ye came out from Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand the LORD brought you out from this place: there shall no leavened bread be eaten.

Exodus
Chapter 20
1And God spake all these words, saying,

2I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

3Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

4Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

5Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

6And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

7Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

8Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Leviticus 23:25
Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.

This actually doesn't address anything that the bible verses I posted says.

The Sabbath laws could have been a protection for slaves, when such existed, and also be a permanent sign between Israel and the Lord that He created the world in 7 days.
