Protestantism and Rabbinic Judaism

[Fenris]

This is going to be pretty controversial, but here goes:

I think there are similarities between Protestantism and Judaism as it is practiced today.

In my mind, it's like this.

The Protestant movement removed the sanctity of a place, Rome. It removed the power of a person, the Pope. You can pray anywhere and commune with God directly, whoever you are and wherever you find yourself.

Rabbinic Judaism didn't remove the power of the high priest, but in a way made it superfluous. Anyone can pray to God and ask for forgiveness. Rabbinic Judaism didn't remove the sanctity of Jerusalem. We pray facing Jerusalem. But it removed the primary importance, because you can pray to God from wherever you are.

I know that people here will say that the change happened in Judaism because the Temple was destroyed. But that's not true. The change happened before that. The NT describes Jesus giving sermons in the synagogue, and that was before the Temple in Jerusalem was destroyed. And a majority of the world's Jews didn't even live in Judea at the time. And they didn't need to. Because the Great Assembly had codified prayer and made communing with God possible even if one could not bring a sacrifice.

Anyway, both movements democratized and universalized their respective faiths.

Fenris. Shalom  to you my friend.

* Protestantism and Roman Catholism , are not the same thing. They are two branches of Christianity.

To me as a Christian, my body becomes a temple with the indwelling of HaShem's Ruach HaKodesh, when I declare and confess Yeshua HaMashiach as my LORD and Savior . This puts a great responsibility on me as a Christian how I live and treat my body.
A church building is merely a place made from brick and mortar where fellow believers  meet to worship together.
