As I see it.
Unfortunately not what the Hebrew means.

Quote
At Genesis 1:1 the word bara, translated as created, is in the perfect state, which means that at this point the creation of the heavens and the Earth were completed. Later, as in verse 16 the Hebrew word asah, translated as made, is used, which is in the imperfect state, indicating continuous action.
Not what the Hebrew means.

Quote
The Hebrew word ruach, translated as spirit, indicates any invisible active force.
Not what the Hebrew means.

Quote
[Genesis 1:3] Here the Hebrew verb waiyomer (proceeded to say) is in the imperfect state indicating progressive action.
Not what the Hebrew means.

Quote
A Distinctive Translation of Genesis by J.W. Watts (1963): "Afterward God proceeded to say, 'Let there be light'; and gradually light came into existence."

Benjamin Wills Newton's translation (1888): "And God proceeded to say [future], Let Light become to be, and Light proceeded to become to be [future]."
Not what the Hebrew means.

Quote
The Hebrew word for light, ohr, is used. This distinguishes the light from the source of the light. Later, on the fourth "day" the Hebrew word maohr is used, signifying that the source of the light only becomes visible then through the swaddling band.
Not what the Hebrew means.

Quote
[Genesis 1:5] Here the Hebrew word yohm translated day, indicates the daylight hours, but the term will be applied in the following verses to indicate various lengths of time.
Not what the Hebrew means.

Quote
The terms evening and morning are metaphoric. At this point there are no witnesses on Earth to a literal night and day, but there are witnesses in heaven. (Job 38:4, 7) The evening symbolizes the period of time in which the events unfolding were indiscernible to the angels in heaven. The morning symbolizes the period in which the angels could distinguish what had been accomplished. (Proverbs 4:18)
Not what the Hebrew means.

Quote
[Genesis 1:6] The word expanse is translated from the Hebrew raqia, which means "spreading out."
Not what the Hebrew means.

Quote
[Genesis 1:11] The Biblical kind, from the Hebrew leminoh, Greek genos, and Latin genus, differs from the Evolutionist kind. The Biblical "kind" can be defined as divisions in which cross fertility can occur, a boundary between these kinds is drawn where fertilization ceases.
Not what the Hebrew means.

Quote
[Genesis 1:14] The light in verse 14 is different from that in verse 3. In verse 3 the Hebrew word ohr is used, meaning the light from the source. Light in a general sense, whereas the light in verse 14 the Hebrew word maohr is used, signifying the source of the light is now visible.
Ah, finally, an actual good translation of the text. Yes, in verse 3 God creates light, and in verse 14, He places sources of light in the sky.

Quote
[Genesis 1:16] The Hebrew waiyaas (proceeded to make), from asah, in verse 16 is different than bara (create) in verses 1, 21 and 27. Asah is the imperfect state indicating progressive action.
Not what the words mean. Furthermore, in Gen 2:2, the text says that "On the seventh day, God completed the work that He did", it uses the word "Asah". Using your definition, it would mean that God finished the "progressive action" (whatever that it) on the seventh day.

Quote
[Genesis 1:20] The word soul, from the Hebrew nephesh, means "breather."
That's not what the word means.

It can mean "soul" or it can mean "to refresh". A different Hebrew word, "Neshama" means "breath". See gen 2:7.

Quote
The Hebrew term remes means to creep or move about; an aimless movement.
It doesn't mean "an aimless movement". It means "to creep" or "to swarm".

Quote
[Genesis 1:24] Cattle; domestic or tame animal (Hebrew behemah).
Yes, that's what it means.

Quote
[Genesis 1:26] God refers to his son, Christ Jesus in his heavenly pre-human existence.
Not what it says.

Quote
[Genesis 1:27] Too often it is overlooked by selfish, dominating men that woman too were created in Gods image, and thus deserving respect.
Too often it is overlooked by selfish, dominating people that all humans are created in the image of God, and thus deserving of respect.

I think that you will find that nobody here is interested in what the Hebrew says. Believe me, I've tried.

As long as it agrees with our particular favorite commentary narrative, we love it…

I apologize for the delay, Fenris. I actually started to respond to this first but due to it's difficulty got bored and distracted by the more simple and less time consuming tasks elsewhere. You know what I mean.

Unfortunately not what the Hebrew means.

Not what the Hebrew means.

Not what the Hebrew means.

Not what the Hebrew means.

Not what the Hebrew means.

Not what the Hebrew means.

Not what the Hebrew means.

Not what the Hebrew means.

Could you elaborate on your already exhaustive criticism? Maybe. I don't know. Tell us what you, or more likely, your tradition prescribes as the meaning?

It would be the first time for me if they did. The Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek or Latin.

Such is life. We all, as they say, have our filthy idol to carry.

This has nothing to do with "tradition prescribing meaning". You are very busy assuming meanings of words that have nothing to do with the plain text.

One example from your post: "The Hebrew word ruach, translated as spirit, indicates any invisible active force."

The Hebrew word "Ruach" does not mean "any invisible active force". You just made this up. Your whole post is full such imaginings.

Quote from: DLH
[Genesis 1:14] The light in verse 14 is different from that in verse 3. In verse 3 the Hebrew word ohr is used, meaning the light from the source. Light in a general sense, whereas the light in verse 14 the Hebrew word maohr is used, signifying the source of the light is now visible.
Ah, finally, an actual good translation of the text. Yes, in verse 3 God creates light, and in verse 14, He places sources of light in the sky.

Hmm. I'm not sure that is nuanced the same as I nuanced it. I have it that the source of light, the luminaries, were all complete in Genesis 1:1. As the heavens and earth. Later they were arranged, appointed, as originally purposed. The light penetrates the swaddling band and later the source is visible. The progressive language indicates a work in progress.

Quote from: DLH
[Genesis 1:16] The Hebrew waiyaas (proceeded to make), from asah, in verse 16 is different than bara (create) in verses 1, 21 and 27. Asah is the imperfect state indicating progressive action.
Not what the words mean. Furthermore, in Gen 2:2, the text says that "On the seventh day, God completed the work that He did", it uses the word "Asah". Using your definition, it would mean that God finished the "progressive action" (whatever that it) on the seventh day.

You mean that he proceeded to rest? Wai‧yish‧both. You see, this goes further into the Greek with the Christian texts which may not be significantly relevant to you. Uh . . . I don't want a time consuming detailed explanation but let me just see if the following can help. Maybe you are familiar with. Well, I mean inasmuch as it differs from your own tradition.

The number 6 is incomplete. 7 is complete, 6 is incomplete. That is why 666, Greek 006, 060, 600 is the number of man. It's incompleteness stressed three times. So, God . . . you know I have a post I was working on . . . I will link it here. It explains this in more detail. I have to post it yet though.

Anyway, God created the heavens and earth. Adam and Eve were perfect. Like a newborn is perfect. Not unlike myself it is chubby, bald, toothless, can't talk, walk, go to the bathroom. Perfect. Meaning innocent and having great potential. He will be complete when he enters God's rest. The seventh day. So, yeah, he was finished up to that point. But as Jesus said, their work continued. They were not tired and in need of rest. The rest was a period of time in which mankind was allowed, like the angels before them, to mature. Complete. Then the work will be complete. In other words the seventh day continues to this day and who knows how much longer. (John 5:16-17; Isaiah 40:28)

Quote from: DLH
[Genesis 1:20] The word soul, from the Hebrew nephesh, means "breather."
That's not what the word means.

[Sigh]

Why?! Why must you question me? Nephsh comes from a root word, naphash that means breather.

It can mean "soul" or it can mean "to refresh". A different Hebrew word, "Neshama" means "breath". See gen 2:7.

Yeah. That's what I said. I'm going to post something on the soul today, or soon. Not the immortal soul of Greek philosophy but of the Bible. I would edit a link to it if I could remember and find this reference. Let's just do it now, huh? Here

No, we're talking about the plain Hebrew text.

Quote

The number 6 is incomplete. 7 is complete, 6 is incomplete.
6 is a number. 7 is a different number. 6 is a perfect number, that is, it is the sum of its divisors. Those are exceedingly rare. On the other hand, 7 is a prime number, the first of the form 6N+1. It is also a twin prime, its partner being 5. It is not known if twin primes are infinite, however, the sum of the inverse of twin primes is finite, unlike the sum of the inverse of all primes, which sums to infinity (although very slowly!) This means that even if infinite, twin primes are relatively rare. The sum of the inverse of twin primes is called Von Brun's constant. Its value is exceptionally difficult to calculate.

It's refreshing to see that you're not just making up terms in Hebrew, you do the same thing to the poor Greeks.

I do not have a monopoly on Hebrew. But I know what Hebrew words mean and I'm not inventing new meanings for them to further a nonsensical argument.

Quote
Oh goy . . .
Amos 9:7 “Are ye not as children of the Ethiopians unto Me, O children of Israel?”

God compares the children of Israel to gentiles. And not just any gentiles, black gentiles. Shocking, I know. Almost as if "Have we not all one Father? Has not one God created us?" (Malachi 2)
