The Prophecy of the Popes (Latin: Prophetia Sancti Malachiae Archiepiscopi, de Summis Pontificibus, "Prophecy of Saint-Archbishop Malachy, concerning the Supreme Pontiffs") is a series of 112 short, cryptic phrases in Latin which purport to predict the Catholic popes (along with a few antipopes), beginning with Celestine II. It was first published in 1595 by Benedictine monk Arnold Wion, who attributed the prophecy to Saint Malachy, a 12th-century Archbishop of Armagh.

The prophecy predicted 112 popes and that Rome would be destroyed during the reign of the 112th. The recent death of St Francis has turned the prophecy on it's head. Unless Rome is destroyed before the next pope is elected, we must all conclude that the prophecy is false. However, I am sure the subscribers to the work will offer up some loophole on why there could be another pope. What say you?

Did anyone really need to wait out the next 112 Popes to toss this away as nonsense?

Pope Francis was the 112th so they can throw it out now. However I bet someone finds some way for the prophecy to be kept alive.

I wonder if anyone would be able to tell if he was or not, or can even define what that means really. R.I.P. Pope Francis, you were truly one of the popes of all time.

Yeah but like, some people also believe the earth is flat, so... I mean I guess I'm wondering why we should care about flat earthers who happen to be Pope fatalists or something?
