My legs aren't liking me much today. My fitness software had a challenge to run a 15k this month, which I did yesterday. Today my legs are a bit stiff. It's been a while since I ran that far without taking any walk breaks at all, in the summertime I find I overheat and need to cool off but yesterday was cool enough that I could just go for it.

And for good measure I turned another bowl out of a piece of hemlock. I don't care for turning hemlock, the fibers in it tear out and it takes an age to sand it smooth. It looks nice when it's done, but other woods are so much easier to work with.

Keep me in your prayers.  I have my 5th macular degeneration eye shot on Thursday.  If I remember correctly, this is series of 10 shots.  So this takes me half way.
May God bless you as you seek to do God's will

Ouch!!!!!
Danger, Will Robinson.  You will be assimilated, confiscated, folded, mutilated, and spindled. Do not pass go.  Turn right on red. Third star to the right and full speed 'til morning.

Today I ate far too much fried chicken at our annual church picnic, then took a long nap in my recliner and went for a walk to walk off the fried chicken. Then I spent a few hours turning a very tricky piece of black cherry into a bowl. The grain pattern is beautiful but for some reason I kept getting catches when I hollowed it out. I wanted to turn it thinner than I did, but was getting concerned that one good catch could destroy it completely, so played it very cautiously.

LOL.  Fortunately, they numb the eye very well before the injection.

Playing a week of "Is it white coat syndrome or is it hypertension!" (What new ways can my body think of to try to kill me next).

Though it's been about 5 years since we last played this game. Weee.

I scored a nice chunk of maple while out running, so that's added to my stacks of wood in the garage.

This afternoon I decided to turn a chunk of sycamore that's been there for a few months now. I had hoped to turn a couple of matching square plates out of it but cutting it is all but impossible because I don't have anything that will cut through that thickness. So I turned it into a bowl. I very nearly abandoned it because the wood had a lot of cracks in it, but decided to take it very carefully and not try to make the sides too thin. So now I've got a very nice looking bowl that weighs more than several of my other bowls combined. It feels like you could drop-kick it into next week and it wouldn't notice.

Tomorrow evening we have company so Wednesday's job is probably going to be turning a chunk of black cherry that's an effort to lift into a giant plate for my wife.

I had a bp spike over 12 years ago, brought on by an event, which damaged a heart chamber. It was erroneously (later) diagnosed as a heart attack. I can now feel spikes triggered by stressful situations.

That's not so good :( Is that just a thing now they need to be aware of, or future consequences yet unknown?

This time is because I got sick last week, developed pulsatile tinnitus, which is they think caused by pressure / fluid in my ear and not anything else, but just to be safe, BP readings. I would expect I'm in the "you're fine but try to lose weight and eat more omega 3s" category.

Good!

For me it's a matter of maintaining healthy diet & lifestyle. Not considered high risk. So far.

I mounted a large piece of black cherry to my lathe. I needed to trim some corners off with a chainsaw, and also took a chunk off the back of it rather than spending an age chipping away at it with a gouge.

I got the outside turned and sanded. Tomorrow's job is to cut a mortise in the bottom, flip it and mount it in a chuck, and hollow out the inside. I'm hoping I can do that without it becoming a very large and heavy projectile. Using the tailstock to hold a central column in place will help with that.

i'm thinking I might turn some small nightlight candle holders out of the section I cut off the back. Depending on how many I can make out of it I'm thinking of giving them to my wife, my daughter and one or more granddaughters.

The giant bowl is finished. My wife loves it.

Looking at the space inside of it, and the sheer amount of shavings that came out of it, I've been thinking about the bowl coring systems out there. They feel kinda like cheating but mean that a honking great log like I had to work with would create three or four nested bowls rather than just one.

The downside is that for a large lathe the price isn't very pretty. The other downside is that part of the relaxation of making a bowl is hollowing out the inside, which would rather go away with an automated system

I ended up spending the afternoon waiting on AAA to jump my car.  I've been having trouble getting my car started.  After they got it started I headed over to Tuffy to get a new battery.  On the up side I learned that I had gotten 7 years out of this on.  Which is pretty good considering they are only designed to last 2.
May God bless you as you seek to do God's will

Our cat had his annual visit to the vet today. He wasn't very happy about it. He's lost nearly 30% of his body weight in two years which on the face of it is worrying but the vet says he's still a bit on the tubby side. The vet didn't put it quite like that, he used much more medically professional terminology, but the reality is our cat is a bit tubby. Aside from that he's still in good health, but not very happy with us at the moment. At least he didn't get anything stuck in him this visit.
