My drywall is hung in the spaces I've been working in, and now it's just a question of when the finishers can come and, well, finish. I'm expecting a call to arrange a visit later today.

Next up is a room downstairs. Most of it is done but I need to rejig some electrical stuff, add a couple of back boxes, and move a load of stuff out of the way so I can move in there. Then I get to write another check to the drywall people to come and do some more work for me.

The problem is that I'm running out of space to put stuff, I've got a load of wood stacked that I'll need for another room, my table saw is in there because I need to rip some lumber to make wall studs for another room, and the adjacent room isn't a good place to put the table saw because it's full of more wood and radiators that weigh more than I do.

Some of the wood can go in the basement, and maybe I can shuffle everything around to tuck it all close together so I can get another room finished off. That would be a good start. I don't know if it's achievable but it would be really nice to have that room finished before Christmas, so we can put a decent sized tree in there.

I guess we're the heathens who missed the mark. Still, at least it means my drywall finisher (who also apparently didn't make the cut) can finish his job. He's been here for much of last week and will be here for the next couple of days. It's getting tedious having a contractor in the house, but he's a nice guy so I don't mind him being around, it's just a bit frustrating that someone has to be home to let him in, and stay home because we never know how long he'll be working. When he hits a point where the mud is wet and he has to leave it to dry, he clocks off for the day.

It's looking nice in there, he's doing a good job. When it's done I need to think about painting, stripping and finishing the floors, and then small matters like doors and window trim. We've got a window fitter lined up who should be ready to replace the windows in one of the rooms very shortly after the drywaller is done, which is nice. I'm not sure how I'm going to haul 14-foot sections of wood to make base boards, but one way or another I'll figure it out.

The drywall is hung and finished and most of it is now wiped off to get the last of the dust sticking to the panels removed (the remaining parts are one room where I need to move a couple of 400lb radiators to get at everything).

One room is painted in girly colors. We wanted something that we could live with but that our new granddaughters (age 7 and 5) would also like. They are excited to be allowed to spend the night at Pappy and Grammy's house, and once we've got the space in a state where it's safe for them to be left alone in it we're looking forward to that too. So far I've got the walls and ceiling painted, a ceiling fan installed, and the next step is to reconnect the electrics in there. Then I can fuss with things like baseboards and window trim, and small matters like getting a door hung.

I'll also need to figure out a way to secure what will be a bathroom but for now is a dump for all sorts of stuff, much of which isn't an ideal toy for children that age. It's probably easiest to hang a door that I can lock, as that will also keep them away from other hazards like the missing sections of floor.

Okay. Newly reorganized ministry will (as before) involve outreach to (among others) seriously entrenched inner-city conditions exacerbated by out of control drug use, including Fentanyl among the long-time standards of meth, crack, heroin etc.

 All just one aspect of a broken subculture, where souls do get saved and men/women find hope in Christ.

My girly room is painted, mostly wired (the light in the closet needs to be connected and switched, and I need to decide whether to fit a regular toggle switch or a smart switch).

The floor is mostly sanded. I've been using 36 grit belts, which feel like I might as well just grab a handful of gravel and rub it hard on the floor, but it shifts the nasty coatings that have been there for decades. The sanded floor is a beautiful golden brown, much like the first room I finished, so when it's sanded I'm going to lacquer it rather than sanding and lacquering.

My wife and I chose the color scheme for the other room that's been drywalled, so I can move the radiators away from the wall and see to that. It will also need to be wiped to clear the drywall dust, then painted, then have the electrics reconnected, then the floor sanded (yay!) and lacquered.

Then I can turn my attention to the room downstairs, which is dangerously close to being ready to drywall. It feels like we're dumping scary amounts of cash into the place, but we're getting space back as a result. It's exciting stuff...

I have some before pictures, a few during pictures, and after pictures are easy enough to do.

Our new daughter and granddaughters saw the girls' room the other day. It's not finished yet but they could see the painted walls and ceiling, the ceiling fan, the sockets, and the floor that was largely sanded (now more sanded, but I'm running out of sanding belts). They really like it. We're missing minor details for now (no light in the closet, no switch for the missing light, no window coverings, no door etc) but progress is steady once again.
