They sound more legalistic than the Jews, who after all are following a book of legal rules.

You have no idea. Well, maybe you do? Jews on steroids but without the space lasers and nice hats and cool hair.
Life is not a problem to be solved, but a reality to be experienced.

Finally got to lacquering my floor and the loose boards I've lifted. The first coat is easy because the difference between dry wood and lacquered wood is easy to see. The second coat is much harder because the difference between lacquered wood and twice lacquered wood is much harder to spot without getting light in just the right angle.

In about half an hour I get to put a third coat on it. This time I'll use a work light because it's dark, although before the sun was reflecting pretty brightly off the lacquer, which didn't help matters. I've got a fan to suck out the VOCs, because my wife really struggles with the smell. It's funny, I sit in the room applying the lacquer with an open tin of the stuff and barely notice the smell, while she's downstairs in a totally different part of the house finding it bothers her.

The best I can do is get the low VOC lacquer, and pump out as much air as I can manage.

Update: Ministry taking shape. Pending board meetings, office-workdesk set-up, yet more travel for office equipment etc.

Current state of inner-city: deplorable!

Clear leading paves the way.

Okay. Be well!

Our church's bell choir and our drama team are both performing on Sunday.  Naturally, I am in both.  I fell during drama practice yesterday.  I think it was because I ended up kneeling for a long time and it caused my legs to lose strength.  I think I have a way to solve the problem but by the time I figured it out my legs were too weak to test it out.  We’ll test it out at practice tomorrow morning.
May God bless you as you seek to do God's will

A busy Sunday morning.  Handbell choir performance, a performance by the drama team, and communion.  The bells played Savior Like A Shepherd Lead Us.  The drama team did a movement piece to the tune of.Reckless Love.  Which is the title of our pastor's current sermon series, based on a book by the same name.  We did catch one break.  We have 3 services.  The first is a traditional service.  The 2nd is a blended service.  And the 3rd is a contemporary service.  We were, originally, told that the drama team would be performing at all 3. However, when we got there this morning, way too early for my taste, we were informed that we weren't going to perform at the contemporary service.  Now it's just about time to recuperate with a nap.
May God bless you as you seek to do God's will

Funky stuff today

I've kinda hinted at some things that were changing and hopes that it would all pan out. Well, it all panned out.

The short version is that a very dear friend of ours came to feel more like a daughter than a friend, and a couple of days ago we had a court hearing and legally adopted her as out daughter. So now we have a ready made family, a daughter and five grandchildren. Today we had a birthday party for one of our new grandchildren, so now my belly is full of the kind of culinary delights that a 7-year-old gets excited about. Not much nutritional value but tastes kinda good.

So now I can look forward to life changing quite a lot. In a way it feels like I got everything I ever wanted. Now I just need to figure out how to be a grandfather when I don't have a whole lot of experience of being a father.

You feed them sugary snacks and play with them then send them home with mom.

Congrats!

Thanks :)

We actually need to cut down on the sugary snacks they get. We still get to spoil them a bit but also get to help mom lay down some boundaries with them. She's divorced from their father, so has to deal with the typical single mother struggles every other week when she has them. So part of our new job is to step in and help as needed - it's not technically a "new job" since we've been doing it for a while now, but now it's officially our job :)

It's truly wonderful to see the grands bonding with us as fast as they are. They love climbing all over their new grandpa, and I'm enjoying it for as long as I'm strong enough to keep doing it. With them growing and me getting older I hope it lasts a long time, and I hope they reach a point where physical touch changes because they are growing up before I reach a point where I'm not strong enough to swing them around any more.

Wow! That's amazing. Not a story you hear that often.

Update:
Current manifestation of ministry taking root with decades of previous work providing credible inroads and testimony.

This very troubled slice of society will require a "burning of ships" - no retreat, in your face, commitment and "why not?"

Get clobbered? That's okay and much, much worth the effort.
.
Will update when able.

Be well! Be blessed!

You must be proclaiming the actual Bible in an existing “church”

😱

Praying for you!

Wow! That's amazing. Not a story you hear that often.

It's a weird story, the number of times I've given updates to selected friends within church and commented that you couldn't make a story like this one up is remarkable.

In a curious twist the oldest grandchild, who kinda went her own way and doesn't have much to do with anyone else in the family, is apparently pregnant. We're not sure if she's going to want to have any relationship with us at all but either way there's a chance we'll become parents and grandparents on the same day and then great-grandparents a few months later.

I'm not old enough to be a great-grandfather....

Looks more like Friday evening to me. Nobody is that keen to go to work on a Monday.
