Wait a Minute
« on: December 10, 2023, 01:01:39 AM »
71 years old in several days. And did I just watch the original "Wizard Of Oz" for the seemingly umpteenth time?

(I remember watching it before the days of JFK).

Yes, I did.

Sue me.

We are not in Kansas any more.

Happy impending birthday. :)

Crazy stories about that film.

Congrats on the continuation of respiration and cardiac function for another solar circumnavigation!🎂🎂🎂
Danger, Will Robinson.  You will be assimilated, confiscated, folded, mutilated, and spindled. Do not pass go.  Turn right on red. Third star to the right and full speed 'til morning.

Another crazy story from the film.  My first wife had an uncle who was a film editor on the picture.  According to him, they had to reshoot the scene with the munchkins.  They discovered during the first screening that the midgets had sung "ding dong the bitch is dead,"  rather than "the witch is dead."
May God bless you as you seek to do God's will

Wishing you a happy 71st birthday. The older you get the faster the years fly by, huh? (You have 2 years on me).

Standing before the Judgment Throne we will retain only two things from this life: what God gave us, and what we accomplished with it.

It's a cruel irony that the more birthday candles we earn for longevity, the less wind we have to blow them all out.

Speaking of Wizard of Oz production back stories, I guess most know Buddy Ebsen was originally cast as the tin man, but suffered a severe allergic reaction to the aluminum dust they covered him in. Poor guy nearly died, and spent two weeks recuperating in a hospital. Oh well, he made a lot more money as Jed Clampett than he would have as the tin man.

Margaret Hamilton suffered from severe burns.
Broomstick was actually a pipe which blew up  during filming.
Tremendous actress.

Something occurs to me. The witch melted down to nothing when water was accidentally thrown on her--meaning she had never been wet. And that means she had never taken a bath! Must have been as stinky as she was mean.

She was “dry clean only.”

The cowardly lion costume Bert Lahr wore in the Wizard of Oz was made from real lion hide, and was uncomfortably hot to wear. Lahr sweated profusely while wearing it, requiring it to be dried in an industrial dryer bin every night. It nevertheless fetched more than 3 million dollars at a New York City auction in 2014. Crazy thing is, the suit was rescued by a junk dealer cleaning out an abandoned MGM structure. As they say, one man's junk is another man's treasure.
