Hello all, I was a Mod here when bibleforums.org shutdown years ago. I was never notified about the domain name change. (from .org. to .us) I am not sure if that was by design or not. In any case, how is everyone? Who is on the leadership team now? It looks like my name was never ported over to the new database so I had to re-register. The old site just up and disappeared one day with a big ole "404" error. I am not sure what happened.
Blessings
Hey brother! Good to see ya!

Whereas Adam was made in God's image, we are born in Adam's image alas.
Hey brother, can you post some verses that have led you to say we're born in Adam's likeness, and not God's? Asking because, if I do a quick look at some verses, these come to mind (there are more) and none mention us as in the image of Adam. James 3:9 With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God.
Ephesians 4:24 And to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
1 Corinthians 11:7 For a man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God, but woman is the glory of man.

You know what's really scary? When you engage in some particular sin but have the option not to. And then when you say, "But God, my nature is corrupted, I adopted an Augustinian ontology based on his poor Greek exegetic, and I simply had no choice in the matter!" God will say, "Bro, you didn't have to sin".
Everyone of course *will* sin, but that doesn't mean we *have* to sin, such that our nature is corrupted (not found in Genesis), or because our will has been devastated (not found in Genesis), or some other thing (not found in Genesis).
Hooah!!! Since we will be held accountable for the choices we have made, reveals our free will.

Would appreciate your prayers for Mrs. RK’s mom. Mom (who finally moved in with us this summer) will be 92 in February. In great health and very active… was blowing leaves in the yard last week.
Well, she fell in her bedroom Saturday night and broke her hip. Surgery later today and then probably a week at a rehab facility which will be worse for her than going to jail
appreciate your prayers
Her name is Nancy .
Thanks
Hey brother, will be praying for your mom.

The Great Commission is about doing what Jesus said, ASKING something in the name of Jesus I think is a different subject, Jesus even said anything you ask and I will do it.
In the OP I put a confused smiley, meaning I am not sure. I actually don't know how many times I mindlessly (because many did) ended my prayers with "In Jesus name, Amen", but now the subject has my attention.
Well, in response to your post here, the point of my previous post is Jesus did tell the Apostles what to do, how to " ask" faithfully. But as a member of the Body of Christ, "we" are to do (be taught) the same as the Apostles, as pointed out in the meaning of v20 of Matthew 28. The use of "in my name" is not only for them but for you, me, all in the Body. It's always a heart issue. However, not whats in my, yours or anyone's heart but what is in God's will. When God's will fills our heart and we are expressing prayerfully in the authority of Christ's name, God is moved and mighty work and even miracles happen. But out there in Christianity Land, many aren't discipled and thus, many pursue their whats and have no understanding of God's will. Thus, the use of the words, "In Jesus' Name" is only that, words.

The cliche “in Jesus’ name” has been the foolish Christian cultural equivalent of “abracadabra.”
The phrase “in Jesus’name” means “ by the authority of the person of Jesus.”
So 99% percent of prayers fall flat because Jesus is not in support of the foolish request
See James 1
So true. The lack of discipleship is prevalent in the "me, me, me" club.

Context, the Lord is speaking to the twelve whom He has chosen, not me.
I'll begin with your first scriptures. John 14:13, the words, "in," "my (or "the")," "name." in1722 en (a preposition) – properly, in (inside, within); (figuratively) "in the realm (sphere) of," as in the condition (state) in which something operates from the inside (within).
the the definite article.
name 3686 ónoma – name; (figuratively) the manifestation or revelation of someone's character, i.e. as distinguishing them from all others. Thus "praying in the name of Christ" means to pray as directed (authorized) by Him, bringing revelation that flows out of being in His presence. "Praying in Jesus' name" therefore is not a "religious formula" just to end prayers (or get what we want)!
["According to Hebrew notions, a name is inseparable from the person to whom it belongs, i.e. it is something of his essence. Therefore, in the case of the God, it is specially sacred" (Souter).]
Helps Word Studies: Copyright © 2021 by Discovery Bible. Do you consider that to pray "in my (or the) name, is a command to the Apostles? If so, do you also consider Jesus giving the Great Commission to the Apostles is "only" for them as well? I ask because a key concerning the Great Commission is that the Apostles are to disciple/teach Christians in, Matthew 28:20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Not looking forward to Friday 8/30/2024. Scheduled to have an endoscopy. Probably will turn into an EGD, which will be my 11th. The next day will not be pleasant. I usually spend the next day sleeping and vomiting. I suspect I'm sensitive to the anesthetic they were using. I have mentioned that to several people.
Will start lifting this in prayer tonight brother. My wife and I pray together nightly and this will be on my list.

Timothy is interesting ... The house is certainly the church, ALL the vessels are in the house and belong in the house. Some to honour some to dishonour ... none to wrath or destruction after all the dishonourable are most vital to the well being of the house. But if any want to be USED by God, gotta clean their act up.
I brought your final comments to the top because I am wondering if you believe whom the scripture is speaking about, for dishonor, are born-again Christians? Or are they the tares that satan has lured to be amongst the sheep (wheat)? OK, back to some of the remainder of your response. Oh that word BEFOREHAND why is it there brother? it is there for the vessels of mercy but not for the vessels of wrath. You know how careful God is with His words, When reading the lesson in the Romans 9 verses (basically the whole chapter), the context is actually informing the Jews that God meant to save Gentiles, as well as Jews from before creation, verse 23. So that is "WHY" the beforehand is utilized to focus on those who will believe (Jew and Gentile). But, my point remains, this does not teach that those who will never believe were not predestined for wrath before creation as we see in verse 21-22. God's plan for creation, to include mankind was finalized before creation. We know this because scripture reveals that Christ's death was "before" the foundation of the earth. We can know this through Revelation 13:8 and 1 Peter 1:18-20. Those whom God knew would believe, they are predestined for righteous glory (to God) and those who will not believe are predestined for wrathful glory (to God). We are prepared beforehand, but the vessels of wrath prepare themselves. Brother, this quote I underlined is a prime example of your convoluted commenting. You are adamant that mankind has no freewill and yet, you are saying that mankind CAN exercise free will. Gonna stop quoting here because you begin the rest of the post with clause of being opinionated. Plus the fact you continue to refute yourself, which makes discussion tough.

There is predestiny and there is destiny, the first is what God determined in eternity that man should be, the second is what governs mankind AFTER the fall. God never ever predestined man for hell. God predestined mankind to be a people for the praise of His glorious grace.
While I read the rest of your post, I find many comments that oppose each other and you seem to point out something, then a sentence later, refute/counter what you just pointing out. So, I will comment about the quoted part I left to focus on. I cannot find in scripture a before and after the fall difference, in whether or not man has free will. There is no scripture detailing that before the fall there is predestination and after the fall, there is no predestination. You say there is "destiny" after the fall but honestly, I do not recall any scripture that supports such a statement concerning "destiny." If I may ask, how is God's "foreknowledge" accounted for in your theology? The reason I ask is because predestination encompasses all of creation once creation was complete and time (for creation) began. God KNOWS who will (in time) believe in Him and also, who will not ever believe in Him. He's predestined either for His glory. Here is a verse in support of this: Romans 9:19 You will say to me then, “Why does He still find fault? For who has resisted His will?” 20 But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to him who formed it, “Why have you made me like this?” 21 Does not the potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel for honor and another for dishonor?
22 What if God, wanting to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, 23 and that He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He had prepared beforehand for glory, 24 even us whom He called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles? And this following scripture has much bearing on this topic as we can understand sinful mankind can (when being a vessel of dishonor) CHOOSE to turn away from sin and (in context) believe and receive redemption, being "re-born" into what is a vessel of honor. 2 Timothy 2:19 Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”
20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. 21 Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work. 22 Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 23 But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife. 24 And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, 25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, 26 and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.
God does not MAKE people choose to believe, He knows who will choose and who will not choose, too believe. edit: some fixing

Long day. Up at 0400hrs, at the church at 0430hrs, began smoking 6 pork butts for our Free Community Dinner by 0500hrs.
I only recognize 1 4 o'clock per day and it is NOT 4 AM.
I think 4am is a myth built into stories to scare small children into compliance.
Hahaha, that's funny. Second guessed myself today and lost a great photo. Raining here today and rain makes great opportunity for interesting photos for my "Moment's Through a Dirty Windshield" photo project. Took several hipshots of people walking along the storefronts as I was slowly driving by. I decided to set my camera down and as I cleared past a parked car and looked off to the right, I lost a great photo. A family was standing at the parking meter. The son, just a head taller than the meter and standing just to the left (my perspective), was look down at it. A daughter, was standing just to the right of the meter and was looking up at it. The mom, to the left of the son was looking at her husband/dad and he was to the right of the daughter and reaching over the daughter, was putting in the money with one hand and holding an umbrella with the other hand. They were all huddled under that umbrella. Still mentally kicking myself for not waiting till I reached the end of the street before putting the camera down.
