Another bunch of bowls today. I made a couple of small things from sycamore and then I was on a roll so I made some more. I found a chunk of sycamore in the garage so I cut it into shorter pieces, split each piece in half, and started making stuff out of them.

Now I have a growing collection of bowls on my diing table. Again.

Anticipating the Super Bowl

I made a hefty bowl from black cherry, it's about 16 inches across and 7 inches deep. It's now our fruit bowl, my wife decided to use it instead of the bowl we had been using that was her grandmother's.

I have a piece of black cherry that should be big enough to make a slightly larger bowl, it's the other half of the trunk I cut because it was difficult to lift, so it's about the same diameter but slightly thicker.

Today I hauled a hefty chunk of maple from the garage to the basement. It was an effort to move it, my chainsaw needed to cut through it from both sides, but I got it mounted on the lathe and turned. I got a load of glorious ribbons flying when I hollowed it out, I've never seen ribbons quite like that before.

Now I have a bowl that's about 13" across and 8" high. It's the second largest thing I've ever turned, it's slightly taller and only slightly narrower than the fruit bowl I made.

Oh, this is not your awful sudden but sensible "cut once, deep, quickly" layoff. It's "let's drag it out over months". So I don't know, but so far at least.
