A very strong wind storm came through last night and a tree fell and obliterated our shed.

That's not good. Hopefully you can "build back better" in a way that is, you know, actually better.

I’m glad the missus didn’t make you stay in the shed during the storm!!
We actually have a volunteer community library in there. Fortunately, the books appear to have escaped damage for the most part. Going to be a project getting everything moved out and back in though. First I'm having a contractor cut up the three(!!) trees that landed on it. Then an adjuster can come and value the obliterated shed. Always an adventure here.

Adjuster value the shed? Wow, sheds are obviously a different thing here to what I'm used to. The last time I bought a shed in England the whole thing - supply and setup - cost about the same as my insurance deductible here in the US.

I'm debating what to do with my latest bowl. I found a log in my garage and couldn't remember what it was, but it was heavy enough to not be the punky basswood so I cut it in half and turned a bowl out of it. It turned out to be spalted maple, and I'm really liking the look of the bowl. I need to do some sanding on the inside of it, and I'm going to get some finer sandpaper at the hardware store later today. I sanded the outside to 220 which is what I normally do, but then found a strip of 600 I forgot I had so tried that. Now the bowl practically gleams without any finish on it, so I think I'll lacquer it and see how it looks then.

600 seems a bit extreme for wood so I'll probably get some 320 or 400 or something. I also need to order my new lathe which, among other things, allows me to reverse the motor which makes sanding easier.

Adjuster value the shed?
Not yet. I have to get a service to get the trees off of it. Our whole region had the storm, so there's plenty of claims in the pipeline and they haven't gotten to me yet.

I was surprised that you need an adjuster. The shed I bought for my house in England before I moved cost me the grand total of GBP800, at the time equivalent to about $1300, supplied and installed.

I'm guessing your shed was something more substantial than mine.

Today my grinding jig to sharpen my lathe tools arrived. Before I could sharpen a roughing gouge kinda crudely on one of my grinding wheels, and I could sharpen my skew kinda crudely using a belt sander. Now I can sharpen all of the tools with a variety of fancy jigs. So having done battle with it to get it all set up - fighting the usual issue where a manufacturer could have made it easy to bolt their device to a board but that would increase their cost price by a couple of cents so they left me to figure out how to get a bolt into an inaccessible spot - I then experimented with sharpening things.

My spindle gouge is not only sharpened but reshaped. i tried to sharpen it freehand and it didn't end well. Now I sharpened it with a jig it's properly shaped and, well, sharp. Sharpening my skew on the jig is still a little fiddly but less so than using the belt sander, and it looks like I can get a better edge on it. It's also handy because it means I can use my 120 grit wheel rather than being stuck with the 60. Out of the box my grinder had a weird platform for the 120 grit wheel that's great for sharpening drill bits and utterly useless for sharpening anything else.

And having sharpened my spindle gouge I tested it out, carving a bunch of coves and curves from offcuts.

It was a 16x24 wood shed with amenities. We didn't build it, it was there when we bought the house.

Do amenities include water, or mainly electricity? Sometimes I wonder if some sheds are just a bit of insulation away from being inhabitable.

Pretty much being actively screwed by the "right" at the moment.
