Plea deal for the 9/11 conspirators

While the plea deal has been revoked due to a public outcry, one has to wonder why it seemed like a good idea to take the death penalty off the table in the first place. Nearly 3000 people died in the 9/11 attack, many more died or became debilitated in its aftermath, and grieving family members are still mourning the senseless loss of their loved ones. These mass murderers are responsible for the worst foreign attack on US soil, and deserve nothing less than forfeiting their own lives.

It's also bewildering why the Biden administration didn't anticipate the outrage the plea deal would engender -- which prompted the flip-flop. Offering a plea deal just to make the prosecutors' job easier both dishonors the memory and legacy of the victims and denies justice to their families. Moreover, presenting the offer only to withdraw it, further epitomizes the vacuous, wishy-washy leadership of the current administration. And if Kamala Harris is elected President things will only get worse.

There is no legal or moral reason to offer those terrorists a plea deal. They are guilty of planning and executing the actions that led to nearly 3,000 murders. The evidence is ironclad and they never expressed the least bit of remorse for their actions.

I was one of the first responders who was at the World Trade Center that day. And I went back to the pile, for days and weeks and months afterwards. I lost a firefighter friend that day. I don't forgive or forget the personal misery that the 9/11 attacks caused me and my family and my friends.
