Florida even got snow.  Fortunately not in my neck of the woods.  Keep in mind I like snow...in the mountains where it belongs.  If I want to see it I will go see it.  Thank you very much.
I live in SE Texas. We had 5" of snow at my house last Tuesday and the low got in the teens. The high for the day was 32! That's the most snow we've had since I've been alive. I have teenagers still in the house so we had fun with it. Snow ball wars...and hydro sliding behind my brother in laws 4 wheeler :)

Welcome / Re: New member Young pastor
« on: November 20, 2024, 08:49:14 AM »
Hello everyone. I am a new member here and a young pastor. I have a question for any preachers out there. Before I answered my call to preach I never really pod attention to the many different Bibles there are out there. Once a started preaching I had a few different study/reference Bibles given to me and suggested to me to use. I love them all but am on the hunt for one that I just can’t seem to find.  What is a good Bible any of you all would suggest to use to preach out of and study out of?  Not asking for translations I use only KJV (not trying yo start an argument there).
I'm not a pastor but I fill in to preach on occasion.

I do lead a small group Bible study weekly.

I have a John MacArthur NASB study Bible that I use
I mostly use commentaries (mostly Guzik and Gill) from Bible Hub. https://biblehub.com/commentaries/
I sometimes use a few (Chuck Smith) from Blueletter Bible https://www.blueletterbible.org/commentaries/

Prayer Requests / Re: Prayer for my wife
« on: October 15, 2024, 08:44:13 AM »
What a journey! Praying for her recovery and for you as you're away and missing her.

Lord I pray for ProDeo, and his wife. I pray that you would draw near to them and they feel your comforting presence. I thank you for sustaining her and that you would continue to heal her throughout her stay in the hospital, and when she is released home. That her energy and health would return. I pray for the doctors, nurses and staff. That they would give her the best care possible. That they would listen to you and use the skills they have to provide what is needed. I prey for ProDeo, that you would help him as he's missing the helpmate you've blessed him with.

When we need a miracle it's in you I trust. I thank you for the continued miracle of life. I just thank you for this opportunity in these trying circumstances that we can glorify you within the days of calm and the times of storms. Help us to remember to anchor deep in the serene depths where the waves on the surface can't toss us.

I thank you that PorDeo and his wife are holding on to you throughout this.

Theology / Re: Is free will a failed concept?
« on: August 19, 2024, 05:04:58 PM »
I mean, we have passages telling us God doesn't want anyone to perish, and that salvation is freely offered to whosoever will.
There are many passages that are difficult for the Calvinist to reconcile and I've seen the explanations. Though, the most difficult to reconcile passage for the Calvinist would be Romans 5:18
Quote
Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life.
All means all in both ideas of the passage right? It is the same Greek word in both uses translated as all.

I won't have time to add much to this discussion but I love this quote from a C.H. Surgeon sermon on this topic.

Quote
That God predestines, and that man is responsible, are two things that few can see. They are believed to be inconsistent and contradictory; but they are not. It is just the fault of our weak judgment. Two truths cannot be contradictory to each other. If, then, I find taught in one place that everything is fore-ordained, that is true; and if I find in another place that man is responsible for all his actions, that is true; and it is my folly that leads me to imagine that two truths can ever contradict each other. These two truths, I do not believe, can ever be welded into one upon any human anvil, but one they shall be in eternity: they are two lines that are so nearly parallel, that the mind that shall pursue them farthest, will never discover that they converge; but they do converge, and they will meet somewhere in eternity, close to the throne of God, whence all truth doth spring.

I played my 17yr old son yesterday in one on one basketball. At 46yrs old, I know the day is coming that he'll beat me..."But it is not this day!"

Although, today my legs hate me...

Theology / Re: Marriage
« on: November 01, 2023, 08:21:25 AM »
Mark 10:6 - But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’  ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife,  and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh.

And the question is, when are a man and a woman married in the eyes of God?

My view and I am not certain -

I haven't found any word from God in Scripture it requires a ceremony as obligation. Needless to say it's wise and good to have one, ask God in the presence of people for a blessing of your marriage and have a party thereafter.

And so I think -

1. When a couple decides to go through life together and the love is sealed with sexual intercourse.

2. There are a couple of OT texts that even indicate situations of sexual intercourse is enough for God.

On [2] -

Deut 22:28-29 - If a man meets a virgin who is not betrothed, and seizes her and lies with her, and they are found, then the man who lay with her shall give to the father of the young woman fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife, because he has violated her. He may not divorce her all his days

Exodus 22:16 - If a man seduces a virgin who is not betrothed and lies with her, he shall give the bride-price for her and make her his wife.

It seems to me the act of sexual intercourse is seen by God as a fuse between 2 souls that can't be broken, like being born again is a fuse between God and one of His creatures that can't be broken. As such it is meant.

Marriage is an ever returning topic and if I am asked for my opinion I like to give a correct answer.
I don't have a rock solid answer but in John 4:16-18 Jesus stated to the woman at the well that she was living (From the context it can be assumed sex was involved) with a man who was not her husband.

Got Questions does a good job looking at the scripture involved...

Controversial Issues / Re: "What the media get wrong is..."
« on: October 19, 2023, 03:23:54 PM »
Let's sum up the conflict:

There are two sides.

You have Hamas, who wants to murder Jews.

And you have the Jews, who don't want to be murdered.

And neither side is willing to compromise.

This is why it's difficult to comprehend so many siding with Hamas against Israel. I'm baffled by the inner workings of the liberal/progressive mind.
Exactly, Hamas intentionally targeted a festival and homes close to the border. They did this to kill and abduct civilians quickly before armed IDF forces arrive. That's not even debatable.

There is a question at the very beginning of this thread.

The screen name of the person is Fenris  ;)

David,

Do you see bias as influencing the media in reporting news?
I certainly do. Some news orgs are better than others at being objective.

Since CNN & BBC were brought up, I see CNN showing a troubling amount of bias that I don't read anything from them other than to get a point of view of what most on the left think. I see the same from Fox News. Only time I would read Fox news is to find out what most on the right thinks. I have very little exposure to reporting from the BBC so I don't much to base opinion of them on.

All this lengthy post yet still dancing around and cannot refute what I quoted about Jesus' word.
No one is dancing.

You've been given plenty of scriptural evidence and explanation that you just quickly dismissed.
This is a Bible discussion forum, not meshak's authorized version discussion forum. I won't limit my understanding of God's Holy Word to your narrowed viewpoint.

Jesus' Father is my God and Jesus is my Lord.[/b]

You dont seem to understand the word "Lord".

You still cannot refute Jesus' word of "His Father is His God".

Ok, let’s look at some more scripture to form a basis of “Lord” as can be found in the Bible.

John the Baptist was preparing the way of the Lord.
Matt 3:3
This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah:

“A voice of one calling in the wilderness,
‘Prepare the way for the Lord,
    make straight paths for him.

As can be seen John was referring to Jesus.

And here Jesus is referred to as Lord.
1 Cor 1:9
God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Jesus is Lord and on this we agree. The Bible is clear that there is one Lord (Eph 4:5), as I’ve already shared.

Is The Father Lord? The Bible states He is.

Exodus 20:2
“I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

Isaiah 41:13
For I am the Lord your God
who takes hold of your right hand
and says to you, Do not fear;
    I will help you.

Deut 6:4
Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.

Notice that Lord and God are referred to together here.

Whose name do we call on to be saved?
Joel 2:32
And everyone who calls
    on the name of the Lord will be saved;
for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem
    there will be deliverance,
    as the Lord has said,
even among the survivors
    whom the Lord calls.

Look at Isaiah 42:8
“I am the Lord; that is my name!
I will not yield my glory to another
    or my praise to idols.

Look Who is speaking here. God does not share the title of Lord.

Jesus claimed the title I Am, He was worshipped, called Lord, & is our savior because…
Philippians 2:6-8
He was the very nature of God

And in Col 2:9
the fullness of deity dwells in Him

Just as a note I won't be able to answer for a while.
