Was listening to a call-in Bible answer program where the commentator inserted his own words into non-applicable NT passages making conclusions that the Bible does not offer and is silent on.

The miracle of the Internet - I shut him off.

Whatever happened to "in my opinion?"

Prolly good timing as particular poster incorrectly cited and misinterpreted numerous verses - denoting several as 'absolute proof.'

Cain't argue with them that be infallible.

As an aside: From my youth, in the faith, I've never understood the seeming discrepency between what seems a large contigent of believers and clearly established revelations in both Testaments, which place the onus on the human conscience.

The beautiful and eloquent OP notwithstanding, in which I agree, this is one topic that generally devolves into exercises of rationality.

"The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork." Ps 19:1

"For the wrath of God is revealed from Heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God has shewed it unto them.
For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse." Rm 1:18-29

Seems once the darkness has set into the human heart, no rational argument, no science, no philosophy, can suffice to remove it.

"The fool hath said in his heart, 'There is no God.'" Ps 14:1

The RCC requirement is that one be 'baptized' in the Catholic faith before partaking in their sacred ordinances. Mass attendance is actually allowed but not communion, which is the core sacrament (Eucharist) of that faith, and the true essence of "Mass."

Just belatedly dawned on me.

Recently turned 72 and my beautiful galfriend of similar age has waist-long white hair.

God is poetic and good!

Curious. Do I detect an agenda?

I was led out of a devout Catholicism at 27, but was saved as a teen when confronted with the Bible. I have since rejected Catholicism.

No Biblical precedent, though I've read many futile attempts to make it seem that way.

Once a Catholic, or raised as such, the big annual event involving ashes on the noggin was a hit.

My adolescent plan was to swear off stewed tomatoes for Lent. Providence had other plans.

Where it concerns "seasons" in Biblical Christianity, to each their own.

So pray to be included in the rapture, or stick around and watch some airplanes crash.

Sigh... an irksome remnant of one of the oddest and most exploited teachings of the televangelist era.

Theology / Re: Is free will a failed concept?

Would seem that for any "concept," particularly a biblical one, to have failed, would require clear scriptural, contextual proof - not merely circular reasoning, which can go on forever without vigorously establishing what has actually been written.

Like trying to put socks on a rooster.

Controversial Issues / Re: US Presidental Election

Know Kamala Harris. She was DA when I was awarded a citation for intervention in a deadly assault.

She and I will never agree on certain issues, particularly concerning the Faith, though she is an outstanding public servant.

Tomorrow will be a great day for her and the nation.
