Title: How are eveone doing?
Post by: Cloudwalker on January 27, 2026, 11:41:02 AM
I am wondering how everyone weathering this cold front.  This is mainly aimed at those in the north.and central US.  Particularly has anyone heard from The Parson lately?  I'm wondering how he is weathering this cold snap?

We had something in the region of a foot of snow. It was light and fluffy so easy to clear, helped by the neighbor using a snowblower on our shared driveway. Local stores were open as usual on Monday. No ice at all here, no power outages.

It's cold now - 16 degrees with a wind chill barely over zero. My biggest issue with the cold is that I want to run but it's too cold and the roads are too slippery. That being my main concern is something of a blessing - I'm aware many further south got more ice and face much greater challenges in the aftermath.

I have a very important endocrine appointment tomorrow, and so beside myself I've written up what I want to say in case I forget... and I never forget.

We got about 17 inches of snow. I went out to shovel and plow every couple of hours or so, before it became too much to handle.

It rarely gets cold in my part of South Carolina, and we dodged the freezing rain and power outages endured upstate. We got into the mid 20's for a few days, but that's nothing compared to what many went through. The only issue now is what the next winter storm will bring. But unless there is an extreme shift in the track of the storm, I expect we'll again avoid serious issues.

Well, I didn't fare as well in the second round of wintry weather. It's been in the low 20's the last few nights, and I'm now dealing with a burst water pipe under the house--despite having left two faucets trickling. Anyway, I contacted property management, and a plumber will be en route soon. Still, considering a million people have dealt with power outages in this midst of the storm, I count my blessings.

Freezing temperature aftermath: higher utility bills next month due to using more heat (auxiliary heat kept kicking in despite keeping the thermostat at 68), and a higher water bill due to burst pipe. The electric bill will be $265, when it's typically around $100 or less, and the water bill will be $135, typically around $35. Oh well, it could have been worse--and many people, I'm sure it is. (Some lost power during the freeze).
