Title: Jewelry
Post by: Ta-An on September 01, 2025, 11:13:57 AM
Good day to all.
Ladies is it biblically wrong to have pierced ears for wearing earrings?

I’m not a lady but I was wondering if your question is specific as to piercing or more general to wearing earrings.

Religious Jewish women have pierced ears and wear earrings, so I'm going to say that there's no Biblical prohibition.

Edit to add: I see that this is the women's section, I will delete my own post if that is requested.

Yeah we don't really have membergroup enforcement and actually I'm not sure, who else is here beyond Ta-An? I can clean up the thread (Ta-An) if you like, or move it to a more general forum. I'm just not sure who else would respond. I mean I'm pretty convincing these days but you know

In Genesis 24:22, Abraham's servant Eliezer gives a gift to Rebecca. The Hebrew reads " נֶ֣זֶם", Strong's 5141 (https://biblehub.com/hebrew/5141.htm). Typically translated as "nose ring" which would require piercing.

Also see Ezekiel 16:12. "And I put a nose ring on your nose and earrings on your ears, and a crown of glory on your head.". Uses the same Hebrew word.

Thank you very much for these answers. If Admin wants to move the thread elsewhere, it is fine by me.
I used to have pierced ears for wearing earrings until I was told that it was biblically wrong....  so I just wanted to hear your guys opinion.

I'm going to move this to the Theology forum and can look into member group enforcement.

What your were told as Biblical justification for not permitting pierced ears?

The New Testament, in both Timothy and Peter, talk about women focusing on inner beauty and not on outward adornment.

That's certainly not a prohibition on either pierced or non-pierced earrings.

Proverbs 31:30 says "Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised."

That's speaking of the value of a God-fearing woman, not the lack of value of a woman who is attractive.

Who told you it was biblically wrong, and did they give any justification for their claim?

Anyone can make claims about what Scripture says.

They said that pierced ears was a sign of mutilating the body for adornment with jewelry.
Single hole per ear, not a whole row  ::)
So for years I stopped wearing jewelry  :)

What terribly unkind language, "mutilating." Is this one of those "I speak the truth in love; woman, you're mutilating yourself **takes a drag**"? No one with his / her head screwed on tight sees a woman wearing earrings and thinks, "Look at that woman, she's mutilated herself!" They might think, "Oh, those are lovely earrings." There is simply no rigorous Biblical position that forbids wearing earrings, piercing one's ears to ear earrings, or which calls such "mutilating".

Single hole per ear, not a whole row  ::)

I don't know; I've seen that whole row look done fantastically well. Less is more, though.

So for years I stopped wearing jewelry  :)

If you wanted to start again, there's nothing in Scripture that says not to.

Awesome :)

(Needle piercing is more sterile if you can manage it.)
