Title: Goodbye Tariffs!

Celebrating!!!

Federal court says Trump doesn't have the power to impose tariffs unilaterally

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/federal-court-trump-power-impose-tariffs-unilaterally/story?id=122290881

According to the judges, Congress, not the president, has the authority to impose tariffs under most circumstances, and Trump’s tariffs do not meet the limited condition of an “unusual and extraordinary threat” that would allow him to act alone.

It’s just another lawsuit

Big deal

The CIT is a court of extremely limited jurisdiction and likely has no jurisdiction over the executive

I mean I never understood that the president had this power to begin with. I'd be happy with the courts shutting it down, because if it isn't shut down, you can be sure that the next Democrat president goes hog wild putting tariffs on undesirable countries (Israel) and undesirable industries (firearms, defense industry, gas powered automobiles, anything Elon Musk, etc etc).

Ultimately a refund to companies that have already paid tariffs?

Likelihood.

Second federal court blocks Trump’s tariffs

https://thehill.com/regulation/court-battles/5324212-court-blocks-trump-tariffs/

"A second federal court blocked the bulk of President Trump’s tariffs on Thursday, ruling he cannot claim unilateral authority to impose them by declaring emergencies over trade deficits and fentanyl."

There is no doubt that a regulatory-happy Democrat would do exactly that!

And Congress has been silent on this unilateral  tariff policy since Trump 1.0.

What is so frustrating is the fact that the use of tariffs is neither conservative or Republican doctrine historically.

Free trade is.

ASIDE: hearing comments from many locals almost daily, including believers, I am convinced  that very few Americans value, understand or have even learned about the U.S. Constitution.

Hold the phone there, cowboy. The court has upheld Trump's appeal so the tariffs stand at this point.

I am a fan of free trade. Also of Milton Friedman. " 'One of the great mistakes is to judge policies and programs by their intentions rather than their results.'"
